The Word:
“Saul, Saul, why are you
persecuting me?” Acts 9:4
Prayer:
God, Saul felt he was
totally committed to your cause. He
wanted to destroy this sect that was spreading lies against the one true God,
Jehovah. Yet his effort, his will and
his understanding was hurting Jesus. He
had such zeal, but it was misdirected.
Jesus, my will, my zeal and my understanding alone must hurt you as
well. It’s hard to accept that my
determination to be godly, my self-effort, does not please you. Only faith, trust, rest, hope, child-like
faith and meekness will. You call me not
to be a misdirected crusader, but a humble servant. All the rest is like putting another nail in
your hands and feet, or a spear in your side.
I hear you crying, “Why are you persecuting me?” And all you wanted was
to serve me! Jesus, I’m sorry. I want to bless you. Help me discern.
Act of Devotion:
List those things you do
with zeal and examine them in light of God’s desire for you to simply dwell
with Him.
