The Word:
“I once thought all these
things were so very important, but now I consider them worthless because of
what Christ has done.” Philippians 3:7
Prayer:
If I only had… If I were only a little
thinner… If I
were only more athletic… If I only made more money…
If… Lord, why do I buy into the lies that tell
me these things are important? I know
that if I attain these things I’ll still
feel empty if I don’t have you, yet I still find myself longing for them. Help me to truly grasp what you have done for
me so that I can sincerely say that all else is worthless. And if you choose to grant me with a
blessing, help me not to turn it against You. Help me not to use it as a substitute for the
satisfaction that only you can bring. I
don’t want to find my identity in the things I’ve attained. I only want to find it in you.
Act of Devotion:
List the most important
thing in your life after God’s love.
Examine its influence on you and whether or not you are treating it as a
blessing or an idol.
