The Word:
“To learn, you must love
discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.”
Proverbs 12:1
Prayer:
God, how can I love
discipline? It’s painful. It’s embarrassing. And it exposes me for who I really am. I don’t want others to see that I’m
inadequate. My nature tells me to cover
it up when I make a mistake, or blame my poor choices on my childhood,
circumstances or someone else. But your
word tells me to seek after discipline and correction as though it were
something desirable. Even more so, it
tells me that I’m foolish to hate it. Help
me to put away my pride. When I get the
input of others, help me to receive it with a loving and grateful
attitude. I know there will always be
lessons to learn from my mistakes. Help
me to be humble enough to admit them, and strong enough to handle the consequences. I never want to stop learning, so help me to
love discipline and seek after correction.
Act of Devotion:
Be vulnerable. Ask others whom you trust to help you see
areas of your life that need correction.
